The tarots are the key element to the CG intro for Warhammer Vermintide II. They tie the old man's story about the heroes' struggle together with the maps of the realm. WThe combination of medieval illuminations and art-deco grabs the viewer’s eye and gives the narrator an aura of nobility.

In our love of art-deco we wandered off into ideas that were too abstract for the Hero card. When the project's Director Anders De Geer suggested we play with the imagery of Emperor Karl Franz, the winner was clear.

We imagined the Hero card as a piece of medieval propaganda - something the morally dubious Emperor would have issued to promote himself as a force of good.
